1. Meenakshi Sundrareswarar Temple

Dedicate to Parvati. This very big temple have 4 gateway towers with the hight of about 50 meters. Inside situate a big pond and many beautiful sculpture. Although in the most inner part are permitted to only Hindu people.

Built during Thirumalai Nayak of the Madurai's Nayara dynasty who ruled madurai from 1623 - 1659, This palace is where the king's lived. This palace is considered to be one of the wonders of the South.

2.Ekambareshvara Temple

The largest temple in Kanchipuram. This temple is one of the most ancient in India. Its been in existence since at least 600 AD. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva with the gateway reach 59m tall. This temple represent the element "earth" (it is one of the five temple representing natural element. It is one of the most prominent tourist attractions in the city.

1. Elliot Beach

The favourite rendezvous for youngsters, it is named after Edward Elliot, who was the Governor of Madras at that time. The beach is home to The Karl Schmidt Memorial which commemorates a Dutch mariner, who died here while saving a man from drowning.

2. Santhome Basilica

The Santhome Basilica gets its name from St. Thomas, an apostle of Jesus, who is believed to have come to India sometime in 52 AD. The cathedral was constructed at the site where the remains of St. Thomas were entombed. Situated to the south of Marina Beach, the present structure has seen several renovations after the foundation stone was laid on 2 nd July, 1523. A statue of Virgin Mary, imported from Portugal is also housed here

3. Kapaleeswarar Temple

The original Kapaleeswarar Temple was built in the 7th century by the Pallava kings but was destroyed by the Portuguese. The present structure was built in the 16th century by the Vijayanagar 

kings. It has beautiful paintings and bronze sculptures of the 63 Saivaite Saints in the courtyard.

4. Valluvar Kottam Kodambakkam 

The carved temple on a chariot is a memorial of Tiruvalluvar, the renowned Tamil poet-saint; its structure reminds one of the temple chariots of Thiruvarur. It houses his life-size figure and all 133 chapters from Thirukkural depicted in bas-relief. The auditorium here can accommodate up to 4,000 people at a time.

9.Fort St.George (Near train station)(Museam)

It was built by the British East India Company in 1640 AD. The fort is believed to be the first establishment of the British in India. It is a military architecture marvel, which was erected as a trading post and later evolved to be the origin of modern Indian Army. Situated in the coastal state of Tamil Nadu, this ancient monument is worth watching on your trip to Chennai. St. George Fort holds great historical importance and is looked after by the Archaeological Survey of India.

The state is well known for its contribution to Bharatnatyam. It has many gurukuland training institutes that create future exponents. One of them is Kalakshetra, the school of famous 

danseuse Rukmini Devi Arundale who founded it in 1936; it came to be also known as ‘The Temple of Arts’. The centre provides training to young students and has played a prominent role in keeping alive the classical heritage.
